Description:
This table shows the estimated resident population by single year of age, sex and legal marital status for England and Wales for mid-2002 - 2005. These are revised marital status estimates, reflecting revisions due to the improved international migration.
Marital status population estimates are based on the 2001 Census and take account of subsequent births, deaths, marriages, divorces and net migration. They have been amended for estimation purposes to show all under 16's as single.
Definition of resident population:
The estimated resident population of an area includes all people who usually live there, whatever their nationality. Members of HM and US Armed Forces in England and Wales are included on a residential basis wherever possible. HM Forces stationed outside England and Wales are not included. Students are taken to be resident at their term-time address.
Note: Figures may not add exactly due to rounding.
