The Scottish Office Development Department compiles total salaries and wages of authorities, and income from interest receipts. The information are collected in an annual form, which distinguishes information separately for each quarter in the financial year.

The survey is administered by the Local Government Finance Statistics Branch of the Central Statistics Unit and provides information on the total salaries and wages of each local authority and also on interest receipts.
