The Scottish Executive Justice Department conducts a survey on the issue of firearm and shotgun certificates under the Firearms Acts 1968 from the eight Scottish police forces. Data are available on the number of applications, renewals, cancellations, revocations of firearms and shotgun certificates issued, the number of registered firearms dealers, and with effect from 1994 the number of visitors' firearm/shotgun permits and European firearms passes and Article 7 authorities issued.

The data cover Scotland and are available at police force area level.

The survey is carried out annually, and results are published in the Summer following the calendar year end.
