The Census of Employment, conducted by the census, provides an accurate picture of the level and distribution of employment. The ONS also provides the benchmark for the employment estimates based on the smaller monthly and quarterly surveys (Short-Term Surveys). With effect from September 1995, the Census of Employment has been replaced by the Annual Employment Survey (AES).
