The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) conducts a survey on egg packing stations. Data are obtained from a sample panel of 73 Egg Packing Stations on egg throughput and prices, and are available by egg size, egg class and production technique. The sample results are grossed up to provide monthly estimates of eggs packed in the UK, and the average prices at which eggs are sold from producers to packers.
Data cover the United Kingdom and are available for England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The survey began in 1971 by the Eggs Authority, and was taken over by DEFRA when the Authority ceased in 1986.
