The Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) is a survey of the educational achievement of 15-year-olds organised by the OECD. Fifty-seven countries participated in PISA 2006. This included 30 OECD member countries and 25 members of the European Union.
In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, PISA 2006 was carried out on behalf of the respective governments by the National Foundation for Educational Research. Scotland took part separately.
The survey takes place every three years. The first was in 2000 and the second in 2003. PISA 2006 was the third survey.
