1991 Census Samples of Anonymised Records

Samples of Anonymised Records (SARs), known more commonly in other countries as Census Microdata or Public Use Samples, are abstracts of individual Census records (confidentiality is protected).
SARs from the 1991 Census database are available in two forms: a 2 per cent sample of individuals; and a 1 per cent hierarchical sample of households and individuals in those households. The 2 per cent SAR contain some 1.12 million individual records. The following information is given for each sampled individual: sex/age/marital status through ethnic group, economic position and limiting long-term illness and so-called derived variables, e.g. social class; accommodation (e.g. tenure and availability of amenities/car); information about the sex, economic position and social class of the individu...
