The current structure of health administration in Wales came into effect on 1 October 2009. 22 Local Health Boards (LHBs) merged to form 7. Each LHB covers one or more Welsh Unitary Authorities. These LHBs reported to 3 Regional Offices (North Wales; Mid and West Wales; South East Wales) within the NHS Wales Department of the National Assembly.
