The links on this page allow you to download animations showing the impact of the recession on the labour market. Changing unemployment rates for the government office regions and nations of the UK from the start of 2008 are shown on a chart. Meanwhile animated maps show the change in the proportion of the population claiming Jobseeker's Allowance, the main unemployment-related benefit, for local authorities over a similar period. There is also a zip file if you wish to save all the files.
Each link will take you to a page containing an animated gif. The animation will start within four seconds. The animation on the maps comprises 15 images changing every second whilst that on the chart comprises 30 images changing every second.
Stopping and starting the map
To stop the animation, press the 'stop' button on your browser. To re-start the animation, press the 'refresh' button on your browser.
