There has been interest in UK national identities to inform service and policy needs. In recognition of these requirements ONS recommended a second dimension of national group information based on the following categories: English, Scottish, Welsh, Irish, British and Other. The GHS adopted this proposal and included this question in the 2001/2 questionnaire. Respondents were able to choose more than one category. The results are presented in Chapter 3.
