1 INTRODUCTION
 
  Content of the report  
 

The report is based on the data collected by the GHS in 2000/01 and provides information across a wide range of topics. Also included are a number of tables presenting data on trends and changes measured by the GHS since it began. 

The main analysis is presented in Chapters 2-10. 

  • Chapter 2 presents an overview of change
  • Chapters 3 to 9 cover information relating to the different topics included in the GHS
  • Chapter 10 presents analysis of the data for population groups disadvantaged in terms of employment. 

 Technical information is provided in the appendices. These include:

  • a glossary of definitions and terms used throughout the report and useful notes on how these have changed over time (A)
  • information about the sample design and response (B)
  • sampling errors including a comparison with 1998 (C)
  • weighting and grossing (D)
  • a description of the development work for the 2000/01 survey (E)
  • the household and individual questionnaires used in 1998, excluding self-completion forms and prompt cards (F)
  • a list of the main topics covered by the survey since 1971 (G).

 The web publication includes extra technical information including the full papers describing the methodological improvements carried out for the 2000/01 survey.
