2 A SUMMARY OF CHANGES OVER TIME |

Pensions |
|
| |
Between 1989 and 2000 the proportion of full-time male employees belonging to their employer’s scheme decreased from 64% to 54% reflecting the decline in the proportion of employees who were offered a pension by their employer. Over the same period, participation in employer schemes among full-time female employees rose slightly from 55% to 58% and among female part-time employees the level doubled from 15% to 31%. This upward trend among female employees is the result of an increase in the proportion of women joining a scheme provided by their employer, rather than an increase in the proportion of employers providing such a scheme.
