Implications of the new economy for official statistics: some conceptual and methodological issues |
| Abstract |
The signs and hallmarks of radical transformation of individuals and society are quite evident and abundant. The development of information and communication technologies, the world dimension of economic and cultural phenomena, the productive restructuring, the metamorphosis of the labour market, the challenges proposed by the positivist thought, and the loss of ethical and moral values, priory structured, are indicators of a modified society. Within such modified environment, this article aims to discuss how major changes, which affect the contemporary society, are reflected in the relevance of the official statistical information. A critical question to be answered is if these changes are being captured by the methodological-conceptual framework of the current statistical surveys. A framework constructed and consolidated to measure the modern industrial capitalistic society, of national scope, structured to produce standardised mass goods, which is completely modified today. |
