Information is collected as follows:

Vehicle licensing statistics are derived from an extract taken from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) database, which is used to administer vehicle registration and licensing records in Great Britain

Vehicle excise duty evasion statistics are derived by directly observing registration marks from traffic at various sites around the country. These are then compared with records held by the government licensing agencies

Statistics on motorcycling are collected from a variety of sources, largely drawing together National Statistics with the addition of statistics from motorcycling organisations

Information on cars: make and model: the risk of driver injury is collected from two vehicle accidents reported to the police where at least one driver was injured
