The Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) advises and regulates a number of business areas. It is responsible for international trade and has a lead role in regulatory reform.
The Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) is responsible for school-level education and children’s services.
Communities and Local Government (CLG) is responsible for local government services as well as regeneration of areas. It is also concerned with housing issues (including homelessness) and planning.
The Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) is responsible of sports and creative industries. It is also concerned with the historic environment and tourism.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is responsible for the defence of the country and for international military operations. It also manages the defence estate, military equipment and logistics.
The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) is responsible for energy production and supply. It is also concerned with ways to limit the effects of climate change.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) is responsible for the management of farming and the food supply. It also manages the natural environment and rural issues.
The Forestry Commission (FC) manages woodlands and commercial forests owned by the government.
The General Register Office for Scotland (GROS) is responsible for the registration of of life events in Scotland. It also administers the Census.
HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is responsible for the collection of taxes owed by individuals and companies. It also pays child benefit and tax credits.
HM Treasury is responsible for formulating and implementing financial and economic policy.
The Department of Health (DH) is responsible for improving the quality and convenience of care provided by the National Health Service and social services.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is responsible for protecting people against risks to their health or safety arising from work activities.
The Home Office is responsible for immigration and passports, drugs policy, counter-terrorism and police.

The Department of Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS) is responsible for further and higher education, innovation, science and technology.
The Department for International Development (DFID) manages Britain's aid to poor countries and works to end extreme poverty.
The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) is responsible for managing the criminal, civil and family justice systems.
The National Health Service Scotland provides NHS services within the devolved administration.

The Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) produce information on Northern Ireland’s population and socio-economic conditions.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) produces information to help improve understanding of the UK's economy and society.

Eurostat is the Statistical Office of the European Communities. It provides the European Union (EU) with statistics at European level.
