Changes to the Publication Hub
Skip to the top of the page
We have made changes to improve the service offered to users by the Publication Hub as a result of issues raised by user testing and user feedback.
These changes took place on 26 July 2009 and include:
- Homepage cleaned up
- New tab: Browse by Theme
- New tab: Regional Statistics
- Easy identification of National Statistics
- Change to Finalised Date
- Improved search facility
- Internet Explorer 8 problem fixed
Homepage cleaned up
This allows easier access to the daily list of National Statistics releases. Although some options have been removed from the homepage, no functionality has been lost from the website. As before, all options for searching National and Official Statistical releases are available from the “Release Calendar” tab.
New tab: Browse by Theme
The links to “Statistical Catalogue” and “View Full Catalogue” previously found in the left-hand column have been replaced by a new tab called “Browse by theme”.
New tab: Regional Statistics
The link to “Find Statistics for a local area or region” previously found at the bottom of the left-hand column has been replaced by a new tab called “Regional Statistics”.
Easy identification of National Statistics
National Statistics are a subset of Official Statistics. The Publication Hub lists National Statistics releases on the homepage, and all Official Statistics (including National Statistics) on the Release Calendar page.
To make it easier to identify National Statistics releases across the site, the National Statistic Quality Mark will be seen next to National Statistics releases.
Change to Finalised Date
When a finalised date needs to be changed we currently allow the users to enter a URL that is a link to their website that explains why it has changed, plus text that is visible on the link itself.
From now on users will only have to enter the URL that will be a link back to the Department's website (which will have the explanation). They will not have to enter any text because the link will be displayed with set text to say '...the Department's website'.
Improved search facility
Previously, Search results included every edition of a statistical release. Consequently, there could be a lot of items cluttering up Search results.
To make results clearer, Search will now return general details on a statistical release, which can then be followed to give specific edition details.
Tip: To search on a specific title, use quotation marks e.g. “Labour Market Statistics”.
Internet Explorer 8 problem fixed
The Publication Hub should now display as intended on Internet Explorer 8.
