INTERMEDIATE CONSUMPTION

  Value

The value of intermediate consumption in the household production process is calculated from National Accounts estimates of household final consumption expenditure. Data has been used as the 4-digit COICOP level, and divided between intermediate and final consumption using proportions from the Family Expenditure Survey (FES) and National Food Survey (NFS). It has then been divided between the HHSA projects using either FES proportions, owner-occupied/tenant proportions from the housing project or time estimates from the UK 2000 Time Use Survey.

For further details, see Chapter 9 of the HHSA Methodology (downloads).

The value of intermediate consumption should be interpreted with caution, bearing in mind its sensitivity to some of the assumptions made. See Sensitivity Analysis for results using alternative owner-occupier/tenant proportions.
