Women contributed a total of 53 per cent of all the time spent
volunteering, with men contributing 47 per cent. Voluntary activity took place
mainly as a primary activity, with only 5 per cent of the total time being
recorded as a secondary activity. Men recorded slightly more volunteering as a
secondary activity - 3 per cent of total time, compared with 2 per cent for
