
Travel by non-motorised modes of transport accounted for just over 4 per cent of the total distance travelled in 2000. Between 1995 and 2000 the total distance travelled by parties in cars etc. rose, while the total distance travelled on foot and by bike fell.
The largest changes were in the total distance travelled for shopping trips by both motorised and non-motorised modes of transport. Between 1995 and 2000 the distance fell for trips on foot or by bike and rose for trips by car.
