Over 60 per of the total hours spent on housing related activities was spent cleaning in the year 2000. Gardening accounted for 15 per cent, DIY activities for 13 per cent and shopping for items for the house and household management for 11 per cent of the total. Males spent twice as many hours as females on gardening and construction and repairs, while females spent more than twice as many hours as males on cleaning.
