We tested the sensitivity of the value of the intermediate consumption of owner-occupiers and tenants to:

• using expenditure proportions to divide total expenditure on certain items between the two groups - tenants' intermediate consumption of these items falls by 30 per cent in 2000, but expenditures by tenure are available for only 35 per cent of all housing related purchases.
