ADULT CARE

  Value

To obtain the value of adult care output, the number of adults receiving continuous care (see Volume) is multiplied by a residential care rate. The source of this information is the Care of Elderly People Market Survey 2001 by Laing & Buisson. The hours of non-continuous personal care (see Volume) are multiplied by the gross wage rate of an assistant nurse/nursing auxiliary. The hours of non-continuous practical care (see Volume) are multiplied by the gross wage rate of care assistants/attendants in health and related occupations. The source of both these wages rates is the New Earnings Survey.

For further details, see Chapter 7 of the HHSA Methodology (downloads).

The value of the output of adult care should be interpreted with caution, bearing in mind its sensitivity to some of the assumptions made. See Sensitivity Analysis for results using alternative prices.
