HOUSING

  Volume

Owner-occupied rooms in the UK: 2000

The volume of housing output is measured in number of rooms provided by owner-occupiers. This estimate is based on some of the inputs to the National Accounts’ calculation of imputed rent - dwellings data from DTLR and average number of rooms data from the Family Expenditure Survey. This data is averaged and smoothed for the National Accounts calculations to provide quarterly estimates (unpublished). We have taken the average of four quarters to estimate the annual figure.

Because access to a kitchen is included in the rate we have used to value owner-occupied housing, we need to exclude kitchens from our volume measure. To do this, we have assumed one kitchen per dwelling.

For further details, see Chapter 2 of the HHSA Methodology (downloads).

See Value for prices and value estimates.
