This project measures and values the output of owner-occupied housing services. This is the amount of accommodation provided, including utilities, furniture, insurance and maintenance. It also includes the services provided by tenants relating to furnishings and maintenance.
All the estimates are experimental, and should be interpreted cautiously, bearing in mind their sensitivity to the assumptions used. Feedback is most welcome at any time.
Please let us know by 31st May 2002 if you are planning to comment on the methodology by e-mailing hhsa@ons.gov.uk.
Volume data gives the estimate for the year 2000 of the number of owner-occupied rooms in the UK housing stock.
Value data gives the estimate for the year 2000 of the value of owner-occupied and tenant accommodation services, using a rate for hall of residence self-catering accommodation.
Sensitivity tests (blue box in the diagram) have been calculated using alternative accommodation prices.
See the relevant chapter of the methodology paper which details the assumptions used to compile the estimates.
Analysis looks at the contributions of owner-occupiers and tenants, and the contributions of men and women to household production of housing services.
