Postcode to area relationships

I'd like to know which ward/district/constituency my postcode lies in. Can you help?

Yes we can! Information is available for larger queries from the National Statistics Postcode Directory (NSPD). This is released quarterly (in February, May, August and November) and lists all unit postcodes in the United Kingdom assigning them to a range of administrative, health, electoral and other geographies. It also provides postcode grid references.

Alternatively if you are looking for area information about a single postcode then the GIgateway website offers a service called Area Search. All you have to do is type the postcode into the search engine and it will return the relevant information extracted from the NSPD.

As the NSPD is a chargeable product, the free GIgateway service is ideal for small numbers of postcodes.
