Classification of Rural and Urban Areas

I'd like to classify my survey data into urban and rural categories. How do I know whether a particular locality is urban or rural?

The Rural and Urban Area Classification 2004 is a new single classification of both urban and rural areas in England and Wales.

The linked page offers two separate datasets:

  • Classification of Output Areas
  • Classification of 2003 Statistical Wards

These are accompanied by an Introductory Guide and Methodology Report.
