Firm Spin-offs in Denmark 1981-2000 - Patterns of Entry and Exit
This paper aims at extending our knowledge about new firms which have been founded by persons who have previously been employed in the same workplace. These firms will be considered as spin-offs. Using an exhaustive sample from the population of all Danish firms in the period 1981-2000, we compare the survival probabilities of these firms with those of other firm start-ups, and find them to be characterized by higher survival rates. This observation also remains after controlling for firm and employee characteristics.
