Programme Management ensured all the work on the 2001 Census was managed effectively, and was the responsibility of the Programme Support Office (PSO). PSO monitored all census activities and provided support and advice on finance and project management. It also ensured the existence of clear channels of communication between projects and management boards. The Programme Support Office was responsible for all aspects of business and financial planning and reporting, and implemented procedures to manage priorities and control risk.
