The ordering information below concerns only those products that are directly available from ONS. Details on the cost of printed books and how to order them, and how to access data online free of charge are given in each product description. These can be viewed using the related links in the supporting information section.
Electronic versions of standard output
Output is available on free-standing electronic media directly from ONS as well as being accessible via the National Statistics Website. Datasets are available from Census Customer Services on CD or DVD in Excel, CSV, or SuperTABLE formats. Software for viewing and manipulation is included in some versions. In addition, licensed intermediaries may package the statistics, without charge for the statistics, but with software as an added value service.
Census users are asked to specify their exact requirements on the Standard Output order form. Orders will be accepted only on receipt of a completed form. There are instructions on the bottom of the form providing details of how to complete and return via e-mail or fax. All orders will be acknowledged by return email or fax.
Conditions of supply are built into the front-end software which prompts users to accept the terms prior to granting access to data on CD or DVD when supplied. [More details...].
Geographical products
Geographical boundary or lookup tables available to support Census 2001 datasets are available separately from ONS Geography.
Access and charges
There are no charges for the content of the standard Census results on the web or in other electronic media. This arrangement was made through the Census Access Project. But it may be necessary to recover material costs of supply where these become substantial. Customers will be notified of any charge in advance of supply.
Commissioned output
Enquiries about commissioning customised output may be made to Census Customer Services. Census users are asked to specify their exact requirements on the Commissioned Output order form. Charges will be made to recover staff and material costs, with a minimum charge of £150 +VAT. Consortia commissions and cost sharing are encouraged. [More details...].
Scotland and Northern Ireland
These arrangements apply to the supply of output for England and Wales. Requests for output for Scotland and Northern Ireland should be made to the General Register Office Scotland (GROS) or to the Northern Ireland Statistical and Research Agency (NISRA).
