Census customer services provide expert advice about the 2011, 2001, and earlier censuses.

Services available

• Identify census products available in print, CD, DVD, and on the web, and supply CDs and DVDs where possible
• Provide guidance on accessing data using the National Statistics web services
• Advise on definitions of census terms
• Advise on the most suitable figures for particular applications
• Give guidance on the terms and conditions for the use of census data
• Supply simple extracts of figures from the 2001 Census and earlier censuses
• Create simple rankings and counts for customer-specified areas
• Supply printed maps of Output Areas (OAs)
• To be the first point of contact for technical problems relating to the use of census data supplied by the Office for National Statistics (ONS)
• Can arrange for specialist advice to be provided
• Take orders for commissioned output

Standards and practices
Requests for output are met by email if possible, but many products are supplied on CD or DVD, and a postal address together with a telephone or fax number should always be provided.

Practice complies with the National Statistics protocol on Customer Services, and a more detailed set of standards specific to census services.
