Key Statistics for parishes in England and communities in Wales
The report with Key Statistics and profiles for civil parishes in England and communities in Wales was published on 16 March. This provides a comprehensive range of summary results from the Census for the most local administrative areas outside the main cities and towns. The profiles are also available online through Neighbourhood Statistics. The Key Statistics will now be available from 10 May.
In print and on CD
The results are contained on a CD accompanying the report [£45 ISBN 0 11 621742 1] and contains information for every parish/community.
The printed part of the report also has guidance to help the occasional user. The report in part succeeds the series of printed pamphlets - 'Ward and Civil Parish Monitors' - issued after the 1991 Census for each county, although the amount of information provided for 2001 is much more extensive. A print on demand service for extracts of the report will be provided if required.
Online
The printed part of the report is also downloadable free from the National Statistics website HERE, and the profiles are available now through Neighbourhood Statistics, and the Key Statistics will follow shortly.
Electronic
In addition, a CD in CSV format containing the parish headcounts, Key Statistics tables and profiles is available on request from Census Customer Services.
The full Key Statistics have been released for parishes and communities with at least 100 residents and 40 households, in line with the confidentiality thresholds for other local statistics. But, to meet the demand for information for the many smaller rural communities, simpler 'Profiles' have been released for all areas with at least 50 residents and 20 households. Counts of residents, males, females, and households have been released for all areas. Small parishes have also been amalgamated with other areas to produce populations sufficiently large for the release of Key Statistics for amalgamated areas as a whole. This quite complex process and outcome is described in the report.
Outlines of the Key Statistics tables are HERE, and the profiles for parishes and communities are HERE. Parishes and communities, or amalgamated areas, comprise whole Output Areas for which more detailed Census Area Statistics (CAS) are available. ONS plans to release aggregates of CAS for parishes and communities, but in the meantime a look up table of parishes/communities by OA is available without charge from Census Customer Services to allow those with CAS to produce their own aggregates.
