National Report
The second and final part of the 2001 Census National Report for England and Wales was published and laid before Parliament on 3 February. This completes a uniquely valuable source which fills out the picture of the country as a whole and each local authority given by the Key Statistics released on 13 February 2003.
The report as a whole shows many relationships between Census topics, and the second part adds new results mainly covering migration and workplaces.
The second part of the 2001 Census National Report for England and Wales was scheduled for release in October 2003, but it was announced on 23 October that the plans for the second part were being revised to accommodate a review of potential disclosure risks in tables on workplaces and because the production of tables on out migrants was taking longer than planned.
A brief account of the findings from the National report part 2 has been issued as a press release HERE
The equivalent Standard Tables for wards were also released on 3 February 2004 and have been supplied to all existing customers for the first part of the tables released on 31 July 2003. The complete set is available on request from Census Customer Services.
The National Report CD
Figures for England and Wales as a whole are in the printed report. The complete National Report combining the first and second parts, and including results for regions and local authorities throughout England and Wales, is now on a single CD. This, as with the first part of the National Report, has been distributed to all local authorities without charge. Other recipients of the CD of the first part of the report have also been sent the new CD without charge, and it is available on request to all other users on the same basis.
In print and online
Details of how to order the printed report [£45 ISBN 0 11 621668 9], together with a free downloadable pdf version, are from available HERE.
It contains tables of the figures for England and Wales as a whole.
On CD
The national results and those for England, Wales and the England regions, and local authorities from both parts of the report - equivalent to the entire content of the series of 1991 Census County Reports - are now available on a single CD.
The CD contains a substantial volume of statistical information, some quite complex. It is designed mainly for users of all types who are reasonably familiar with the Census and statistical material, and who wish to explore and analyse 2001 Census results in some depth. The National Statistics website provides quick access to summary results in the Key Statistics.
More information about use of the CD may be found in the Frequently Asked Questions, and these will be updated to reflect feedback. Help with any aspect of the CD may be obtained by e-mailing Census Customer Services.
Electronic
In addition, a DVD in CSV format containing the complete contents of the National report and the Standard Tables for wards tables is also available on request from Census Customer Services.
Requests for copies of the CD or DVD should be made by e-mail to census.customerservices@ons.gov.uk or by calling 001329 444972. Copies will be sent by post and full postal addresses with telephone numbers should be supplied. A charge may be made to recover the material costs of supplying orders for multiple copies from a single organisation or individual.
These now include the tables on Armed Forces (AF01-AF04) and on same-sex couples (UV93) [more details...].
Content of the second part of the Standard Tables for wards
The Standard Tables released for wards are identical to those released for local authorities and above except that, pending the further outcome of the review of disclosure risk in workplace tables, no tables showing the industry of workplace populations at ward level will be released - this affects tables S130, S131 and S132, and one section of the theme table T10.
More information about the outcome of the remaining part of the review of disclosure risks in tables about workplaces and the availability of further workplace tables, including the matrix of journeys to work, at Ward and Output Area level will be issued as soon as possible.
