It was announced in late October 2003 that the plans for the second part of the National Report, together with all remaining output, were under review [more information...], and that revised plans would be published in Census News as soon as possible. The second and final part of the National Report will be published on 3 February 2004.
The first part of the National Report was released on 7 May 2003, and the CD version which contained the equivalent of the entire set of 1991 Census County Reports was distributed widely without charge [more details...]. It was announced at the time that a number of tables, mainly covering migration and workplaces could not be prepared in time for inclusion, and would be issued in a second part along with other supplementary tables.
The second part of the 2001 Census National Report for England and Wales was scheduled for release in October 2003, but it was announced on 23 October that the plans for the second part were under review to accommodate a review of potential disclosure risks in tables on workplaces and because the production of tables on out migrants was taking longer than planned. Progress has been made with the review and table production, and the second and final part of the National Report for England and Wales will be published on 3 February 2004.
The figures for England and Wales as a whole will be in the printed report, but the complete National Report combining the first and second parts for convenience, and including detailed results for regions and local authorities throughout England and Wales, will be on a single CD. This, as with the first part of the National Report, will be distributed to all local authorities without charge, and will be available to all other users on the same basis. More details of these arrangements will be announced in Census News nearer to the release date.
The equivalent Standard Tables for wards will also be released on 3 February 2004 and will be supplied to all existing customers for the first part of the Tables released on 31 July 2003. The complete set is available on request from Census Customer Services.
Content of the National Report part 2
The report will contain all remaining tables planned for release in the National Report, although there will be some changes to the tables on workplaces and out migrants. It will include the Key Statistics tables on migration, additional results about the armed forces and about same sex couples, as well as the tables not included in the first part of the Report.
There will be a limited merging of categories in the classification of the industry of workplace populations in tables released at local authority level and above to remove any risk that the tables could disclose information about identifiable individual workplaces, organisations or enterprises. The category of 'Fishing' will be merged with 'Agriculture, hunting and forestry' to form one category, as will the categories 'Mining and quarrying', 'Manufacturing', and 'Electricity, gas and water'. Unlike results for migration, results for workplace populations will not include information for people resident in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
A list of the tables, including corrected versions, to be included in part 2 of the Report is HERE, and outlines of the tables may be viewed HERE.
Content of the second part of the Standard Tables for Wards
The Standard Tables released for wards will be identical to those released for Local Authorities and above except that, pending the further outcome of the review of disclosure risk in workplace tables, no tables showing the industry of workplace populations at ward level will be released - this affects tables S130 and S131, and one section of the theme table (T10).
