The Standard Tables at ward area level were released on 31 July for England and Wales. They add much local detail to the uniquely valuable picture given at local authority level by the National Report published on 7 May. In particular, they provide many relationships between Census topics, for example the links between age, social group and health.
The Standard Tables at ward level are available in SuperTABLE or CSV format on DVD for England and Wales as a whole, and are being supplied to meet existing and new orders (details of the order service are HERE). Users who have arranged supply of 2001 census material through an intermediary service such as SASPAC need not order directly from ONS.
The wards in England and electoral divisions in Wales are those which were legally in existance on 31 December 2002, with three exceptions - Middlesborough, Redcar and Cleveland, and Rutland - where new boundaries which were imminent have been used, and except for wards/electoral divisions which were below the confidentiality threshold of 1,000 residents and 400 households, which were merged with a neighbour. Details of the operative dates for ward/electoral division boundaries in each local authority are HERE, and details of merged areas are HERE.
Content of the Standard Tables for Wards
The tables included in the Standard Tables for wards released on 31 July include all those covered by the National Report released on 7 May 2003. A list of those tables may be viewed HERE, and an index to the topics covered by the tables can be viewed HERE.
Fifteen simple tables (known as 'univariate' in consultation) previously only included in the Census Area Statistics have been included with the Standard Tables so that results are released as soon as possible, and these are shown separately at the end of the list of tables. In addition, table S104 which cross-tabulates ethnicity by religion and table S048 which provides information on dwelling type, which were released at local authority level and above in June, are included in the Standard Tables for wards released on 31 July.
A further sixteen tables covering migration and workplace will be released later in 2003. A list of these tables may be viewed HERE. The production of these sixteen tables has depended on the coding of address one year ago and address of workplace to Output Areas, and the construction of the additional output databases is still in progress.
