The Census website content has been redesigned to provide better access for everyone to 2001 Census results, supporting information and plans for 2011.
The site is now more straightforward to use. There is a single entry point to locate all Census 2001 results and supporting information provided on the web and elsewhere. There are, new, more helpful, descriptions for every product. No content has been removed. Those familiar with the Output Prospectus will still find it available for cross-reference.
The need for a change
The original website was developed during the release phase of the 2001 Census and has been due for an update. The redesign puts emphasis on helping all users understand the large array of Census output, and focuses on products and supporting information.
Most of the changes are to the introductory pages, the key 'single entry point', and the navigation. The 'in depth' content on coverage and quality is all still available. New content will continue to be added.
In most cases links from your Favourites list will be unaffected. If you have any difficulties please contact Census Customer Services who will be pleased to help. Suggestions for further improvements to usability would be welcome. Let Census Customer Services have your views.
If your organisation has a website which refers to the Census, or includes local results, you would be welcome to add a link to the redesigned site. Possible text "See the Census pages at www.statistics.gov.uk/census on the National Statistics site which give access for everyone to all 2001 Census results, supporting information, and plans for the next Census".
