The ONS 2001 Census based area classification of local authorities has been released through Neighbourhood Statistics. This follows the widely used classifications produced from the 1971-91 Censuses, but for the first time covers the whole of the UK and is accessible on the web. The classification is based on the Key Statistics released earlier in the year, and distils the entire range of Census measures to produce a simple and striking picture of differences and similarities within the UK. It shows marked patterns across the UK. The broad picture can be seen on maps on the website, and information on how each local authority fits into the classification is available instantaneously. Access the classification HERE.
