Areas covered by the Census Coverage Survey, and hard to count information
This section provides details of the areas covered by the CCS. The individual postcodes sampled cannot be released for reasons of confidentiality, but maps show their general location. Each map shows one Estimation Area, which consists of one or more local authorities. Local authority boundaries are marked in blue and the Estimation Area boundary in red.
The CCS postcodes are marked by circles of different colours, depending on the hard to count index. There are three levels: 1 (easiest to count) is marked by a white circle, 2 (medium) by a light green circle, and 3 (hardest) by dark green circle. The index was constructed from the following 1991 Census variables:
multi-occupancy - defined as addresses containing more than one household
unemployment
language difficulty - derived from country of birth
private rented accommodation
number of households imputed in 1991
In some areas a very small sample size in one hard to count group led to it being merged with an adjacent group. There is more information on the CCS sample design HERE
