When will the 2001 Census results be released?

First results from the 2001 Census will be published on Monday 30 September 2002. This will show the population on Census Day by age and sex, nationally and for each local authority in England and Wales.

The main results are scheduled for release between February 2003 and July 2003. There will be reports to Parliament, and versions of these available free of charge on our Website. There will also be many more local results providing a uniquely detailed picture of the country. These will be accessible without charge through Neighbourhood Statistics on our Website, and will also be supplied in free-standing forms.
