Men more likely to have more than one

During 2004/05 men were more likely than women to have had more than one sexual partner in Great Britain during in the previous year. Thirteen per cent of men aged 16-69 had multiple sex partners compared with 9 per cent of women aged 16-49.
For both sexes, multiple sexual partners were most common among those aged below 25. Over a third of men aged under 25, a fifth of women aged 16 to 19 and a quarter of women aged 20 to 24 reported having more than one sexual partner in the previous year. Men and women aged 25 to 49 were most likely to have only one sexual partner and also least likely to have none. The proportion of both men and women who had not had a sexual partner was highest among those aged under 20.
Among adults that were married or cohabiting, 5 per cent of men and 1 per cent of women had not had a sexual partner in the last year.
