Renewable sources generate 5% of electricity

• Nearly six in ten (57 per cent) people aged 15 and over in the EU-27 countries in 2007 said that climate change concerned them. (Table 11.1)
• Renewable energy accounted for around 5 per cent of all electricity generated in the UK in 2007, around three-and-one-half times more than in 1991. (Table 11.4)
• In 2007, nearly two-thirds (64 per cent) of adults aged 16 and over in England stated they never left their television on stand-by overnight. (Table 11.6)

• The Environment Agency recorded 827 serious pollution incidents in England and Wales in 2007, a fall of 36 per cent since 2000 and 9 per cent since 2006. (Table 11.11)
• The UK was around 61 per cent self-sufficient in all food in 2007 and 74 per cent self-sufficient in indigenous-type food. (Figure 11.20)
