UK Regional Gross Domestic Product: Methodological Guide
Methodologies and data sources used; the accuracy of the final published figures; planned dates for future publication.
The ONS publishes GDP estimates for the Government office Regions (GORs) of England and for Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Regional estimates of GDP at basic prices are calculated at industry level detail using Standard Industrial Classification 1992. For each component of income-based GDP, the most appropriate data sources available are used to calculate the regional estimates.
This article describes the methodologies and data sources used to derive these regional estimates. It discusses both the accuracy of the final published figures and the planned dates for their future publication.
In the future changes section, the article describes forthcoming improvements to these processes and the sources of likely future revisions when GDP estimates are next published in February 2001 and then again in Spring 2002.
