This article presents a geographical breakdown of the United Kingdom International Investment Position (IIP), or stock of external assets and liabilities, for end 2001. This is the first such analysis of the United Kingdom IIP and is based on survey data on foreign direct investment, the results of the IMF's Coordinated Portfolio Investment Survey and Bank of England data on banks external assets and liabilities. The results show that on balance, the UK had a net asset position with the EU, Europe and Australasia, but net liability positions with the Americas, Asia and Africa.
