The coverage of Goods and Services indices in the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP)
From the January 2002 index, the Consumer price indices press release - Table 5 - includes the HICP sub-indices for 'goods' and 'services'. The coverage of these differs from that of the Retail Prices Index (RPI) goods and services indices due to the different classification systems used in the HICP and the RPI. This article explains the coverage of goods and services for HICP.
On 17 June 2004 a correction was made to the article Table 2: The classification of goods and services at COICOP Class level in the HICP. 03.1.4 Cleaning, repair and hire of clothing had mistakenly been reported as "G" for goods instead of "S" for service.
