ONS has recently taken part in a project, under the auspices of Eurostat, aimed at assessing the accuracy of the various estimates which feed into GDP. The article describes how basic "raw" data are transformed by a series of adjustments to give the statistical estimates that are used to compile the National Accounts. It examines the project results for the compilation process of the National Accounts (in current prices) for the year 2000.
