This article provides guidance on how to use the information published each month in the CPI First Release and Briefing Notes. It focuses in particular on how contributions to the inflation rate are calculated and can be used. This is illustrated by looking at the CPI figures for a particular month, with the tables and charts presented being based on those published in the CPI First Release for September 2006.
