The United Kingdom is an area of increasing ethnic and religious diversity. The majority of the population are white British, but a pattern of migration since the middle of the 20th century has produced a number of recognisable ethnic groups.
This year, the Feature Article in Social Trends highlights the diversity within the ethnic minority population, both in terms of people's origins, their particular group characteristics and their experiences in the United Kingdom.
