The Eurostat-OECD PPP Programme and the ICP – a shared commitment
The World Bank officially launch the price collection for the International Comparison Programme (ICP) 2003 to 2006
On 24 February the World Bank formally launched the price collection for the International Comparison Programme (ICP). The ICP produces conversion factors called Purchasing Power Parities (PPPs) used to generate international comparisons of global wealth expressed in terms of real GDP per head used for the monitoring of progress towards the internationally agreed 'Millenium' development target of reducing the number of people living on less than $1 per day. PPPs are also used in detailed studies of poverty, competitiveness and market structures.
The ICP is a uniquely complex and global statistical exercise held about every five years and involves national, regional and international agencies. The UK is playing its full part. The National Statistician is a member of the ICP Executive Board and the Office for National Statistics is playing a special role by acting as the co-ordinator for European-OECD ring countries in the global ICP Ring Comparison.
