This article presents a geographical breakdown of the United Kingdom's international investment position, or stock of external assets and liabilities, for end-2001 and end-2002. It also provides a more limited geographical breakdown of assets and liabilities by type of investment.
The results show that the UK's external assets and liabilities are highly concentrated in the European Union and the USA. On balance, the UK had a net asset position with the EU and Australasia, but net liability positions with Europe as a whole, the Americas, Asia and Africa.
