The UK Food sector is a chain that starts with the agricultural industry and ends, ultimately, with household consumption and exports. In between, there are a large number of processors, wholesalers (including importers and exporters), retailers and catering enterprises. Changes such as quality of products, production costs, imports and selling prices, can have a significant impact on activity at every level from farmers through to consumers.
This analyses provides an overview of the UK Food sector together with information and statistics produced by the ONS for 1992 to 2003 based on the Input-Output Annual Supply and Use Tables published in the United Kingdom Input-Output Analyses, 2005 Edition.
The estimates are consistent with those published in the 2005 Blue Book, 2005 Pink Book and the 2005 Input-Output Analyses publications.
