Authors: Ian Cope, Paul Lucas, John Marais, David Vincent
This article presents estimates of regional (NUTS1) Gross Value Added (GVA) at current basic prices for 1989 to 2001.
These estimates are consistent with the estimates of UK GVA published in the 2002 edition of the UK National Accounts - The Blue Book.
The estimates for 2001 show that: Growth in total GVA, compared to 2000, was largest in London, the South East and the East of England. The regions with the smallest growth in 2001 compared to 2000 were Scotland and the East Midlands.
GVA per head of population was greatest in London, the South East and the East of England, and these were the only regions with a GVA per head above the UK average. The North East and Northern Ireland had the lowest GVA per head in 2001.
